Our good friends, Romie & Peter had invited us over for dinner. Romie had made several delicious dishes for us. She is an excellent cook and every time we go over to her place, I am looking forward to a new dish she would have made. And this time was no different.
She had made multiple mouth watering dishes and I really loved perai (Kerala dish) and Curried Shrimp Skewers. I couldn’t resist to take pictures of them and share it with you all. And I am posting the Curried Shrimp Recipe here on behalf of her. I will be posting the Perai (kerala dish) recipe very soon.
The first thing that struck me, probably you too, is the presentation. Doesn’t it look so inviting? Here is an awesome recipe and pictures from Romie’s kitchen.
Ingredients:
- Raw Shrimp : 30 to 35 ( Deveined and unshelled)
- Yogurt : 2tbsp
- Oil : 2 tsp
- Onion : 1 ( medium)
- Tomato : 1/2
- Ginger and garlic paste : 2 tsp
- Red chili powder : 1 tbsp
- salt : required to taste
- coriander leaves : 2 tsp
- Turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp
Method of Preparation :
- Marinate the shrimp with yogurt and turmeric powder for about 20 to 30 mins.
- After that heat oil in a kadai, add onions and saute it until it becomes soft.
- Now add the red chili powder and mix it well.
- Add the ginger & garlic paste and mix it nicely with the above mixture .
- When the masala gets fully cooked, add the tomatoes and cook it.
- Add 1/4 cup of water and the shrimp now (make sure you didn’t add any water after this step ) .
- Now cover the lid of the pan and let it cook till the tomatoes and shrimp gets cooked well.
- After that open the lid and let it cook in simmer until it becomes dry.
- Finally add the coriander leaves and mix it all together.
- Now remove from heat and let it cool .
- Arrange the shrimp in the skewers or chopsticks one by one and you can also add onions, capsicums ( lightly saute) in between them and cherry tomato in the end. Its totally up to your creativity.

A million thanks for making it a special night and for sharing this recipe with us Romie.

Cool recipe. I just found your blog while looking around for other shrimp recipes. I just recently posted a recipe for Caramel and Ginger Shrimp that I adapted from “The Spended Table” cookbook and posted it on my blog @ http://cookingquest.wordpress.com if you would like to come take a look. I love feedback and other cook’s opinions for sure.
Thanks and have a great one!
