Chole Batura(Channa masala)

Ingredients

  • Oil : 3tbsp
  • Cumin seeds : 1tsp
  • Onions : 1 (Finely chopped)
  • Tomato : 2(finely chopped)
  • Chole(chick peas) : 2 cups(soaked and boiled)or(You can use tinned chickpeas also)
  • Green chili : 3 slit
  • Corriander leaves : few
  • Garam masala powder : 2 tsp(You can use ready made Powder too)
  • Tamarind water : 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder : 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder : 1 tsp
  • Potatoes : 3 (small and boiled)(optional)
  • Ginger : 1 tsp
  • Garlic : 2 pod(finely chopped)
  • Baking powder : 1 tsp
  • Yogurt : 1 tbsp
  • Maida : 1 cup

Method of Preparation

  1. Heat oil in a kadai add cumin seeds after it splutter add onions fry until it becomes translucent.
  2. Now add the ginger and garlic fry until the raw smell goes off, add tomatoes with a little salt so the tomatoes mash quickly.
  3. Add green chilies, Garam masala, Red chili powder,Turmeric Powder ,cook until the masala mix well.
  4. Take 1/3 rd of chick peas and make a paste.
  5. Now add that chickpeas paste and remaining whole chick peas in to the above Gravy and add tamarind paste.
  6. If you want add the potatoes .
  7. And add the channa masala powder (MTR or Badshah From any Indian Store) and salt boil it for5 minutes.
  8. Garnish it with coriander leaves.

Preparing Poori

  1. Make a dough by mixing 1 cup of maida with 1 tbsp of yogurt and 1 tsp of baking powder, salt and oil (2 to 3 tbsp) .
  2. After making the dough keep it for a while 4 -5 hours.
  3. Make small balls from the dough and with the help of rolling pin roll each side to circular shape and fry them in to little poori’s.

Serve the chole with this poori it taste really good.It also goes well with rice and chapathi.
