Kathirikkai, avarakkai and murungakkai (brinjal, broad beans, drumstick) is one of the popular combination for making sambar. I made this sambar using freshly ground sambar powder which makes it more tastier. It is a perfect combination with rice as well as idi/dosa. For those who doesn’t know about sambar: Sambar is a staple food in the Southern parts of India. Vegetables are cooked with lentils and spices and served with boiled rice or idli/dosa. Ericha Kuzhambu is more like a thick gravy prepared from the left over sambar, rasam, kootu, kara kuzhambu and other curries. Most of the time we end up with left overs after a party or an occasion or even on a regular day. When you have a left over sambar, rasam or kootu or South Indian other curries, Ericha Kuzhambu is the solution. Poricha Kuzhambu is a traditional dish from Tamil Nadu which is prepared from lentils, spices and vegetables and served with cooked rice. There are different versions of this dish. Araichuvitta Sambar – Lentil Soup (with Jackfruit Seeds/Drumstick)

I am back from my long India vacation. And started my cooking in my favorite kitchen. I had brought some jackfruit seeds from India. So I just made my all time favorite sambar (lentil soup) with my mom’s recipe. This  sambar recipe is a very traditional recipe in south India.  It’s little different from the  regular sambar. If you don’t have jackfruit seeds you can substitute any vegetable. This goes very well with idli, dosa and rice. Trust me it tastes like heaven! Happy Pongal to all our readers…Iniya Pongal Nalvazhthukkal… Today’s special is Mullangi Sambar or Radish Sambar. In tamil Radish is called Mullangi.I like to add a lot of vegetables to my sambar. But when it comes to Mullangi, I only prefer to add pearl onions. We call it Mullangi Vengaya Sambar. It is very popular in Tamil Nadu. The aroma is just too good.
