Posted by on Dec 5, 2008 in Cooking Tips, Tips | 3 comments

Now a days most of us have become diet conscious and concerned about body weight and health. Today, I would like to share a few tips with that I know. It may help you to consume less calories and improve your health. Rice: Instead of steam cooking the rice, add raw rice to boiling water (measurement- 1:2 ½), wait till the rice is cooked and drain the starch (excess water). This way you will consume less carbohydrate. This is just like in the olden days. Papad/Indian flatbread: Try to make papad in oven which will be tasty and oil free. Microwave the papad for 1 minute. Almonds: Soak about 4 to 5 almonds in water overnight and eat it early in the morning. They are a good source of protein and are high in antioxidants, magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron...

Useful Veggie Tidbits

Posted by on Nov 10, 2008 in Cooking Tips, Tips | Comments Off on Useful Veggie Tidbits

There are many ways to cut and cook the vegetables. Each and everyone of us have our own way of cooking. I would like to share some of the easy methods I know. Onions: To avoid watery eyes, peel the onion and cut into two. Keep it refrigerated for few hours before cutting. Or just rinse it with water after you cut onions into half. Lemon: If the lemon or lime is hard, put it in warm water for 5-10 minutes to make it easier to squeeze. Potato: Don’t store potatoes and onions together. Potatoes will rot quickly if stored with onions. Bitter Gourd: To get rid of the bitterness in bitter gourd to an extent, soak the cut pieces of bitter gourd in salt water for 2 hours. (ex: 2 tsp of salt in ½ liter of water)....
